October 8: Dr. Cassie Mecklenburg
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality.
On Tuesday, we will hear from Dr. Cassie Mecklenburg. Cassie has been the Executive Director at Sheltering Wings for nearly 11 years. Sheltering Wings is a domestic abuse center that helps survivors build safety, stability and independence.
Cassie received her bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University. She later earned her master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and her doctorate, again, at Olivet. Prior to joining the Shelter, she spent ten years at Riley Children’s Foundation in fundraising and program development.
Cassie has a passion to help families break the cycle of abuse. During a mission trip where she served survivors of human trafficking in Cambodia, Cassie’s desire to help women was strengthened.
“Safety should never be optional. Everyone should be able to live in a safe environment, free from abuse. Unfortunately for millions, they go to sleep and wake up afraid of being harmed or exploited.”
Cassie has lived in the Midwest her entire life and currently lives in Avon with her husband, Nick. She serves on Leadership Hendricks County, Hendricks Live! and Westside Church of the Nazarene boards, and is a mentor with Edge Mentoring.
