    July 15: Sam Lashley

We’re excited to welcome Sam Lashley, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis, as our speaker on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Indianapolis serves 39 counties across Central Indiana, working around the clock to protect life and property. Their team issues weather and flood warnings, public forecasts, and advisories, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep our communities informed and safe.

Sam will provide fascinating insights into the current operations at NWS Indianapolis, discuss the sophisticated equipment and technology they use, and highlight the Indiana Mesonet program, an advanced network of environmental monitoring stations across the state.

A native of Crawfordsville and a Purdue University graduate, Sam has dedicated 32 years to the NWS, with experience in Milwaukee, Northern Indiana, and Indianapolis offices. As the Warning Coordination Meteorologist, he leads initiatives supporting underserved and vulnerable communities in Central Indiana and collaborates with Indiana Homeland Security, local emergency managers, and healthcare coalitions to enhance and expand weather services. Sam also spearheads weather preparedness, safety, and Impact-Based Decision Support Services to protect lives and property across the state.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn directly from an expert about how the NWS works to keep Indiana safe and prepared for all types of weather!

All are welcome at Rotary programs. If attending in-person at The Rathskeller, reservations and prepayment are appreciated, but not required. • July 8: Andrew Green

    July 8: Andrew Green

Join us Tuesday as we welcome Andrew Green, Assistant Executive Director of the Shepherd Community Center.

Founded in 1985, Shepherd Community Center has spent nearly four decades working to break the cycle of poverty on the near Eastside of Indianapolis. Through a comprehensive Continuum of Care, the organization supports neighbors from cradle to career and beyond, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic needs with a wide range of programs for children, teens, adults, and families.

Andrew will speak about The Ruby Project, a significant initiative launched in honor of Shepherd’s 40th anniversary. What began as a small group serving Thanksgiving meals in 1985 has grown into a community anchor that now serves more than 10,000 individuals annually. As part of this milestone project, Shepherd will break ground this month on a new Health and Wellness Center, expanding its capacity to serve the community with a holistic, neighborhood-based approach.

Andrew brings a wealth of experience to his role. He began his career working with at-risk youth in Detroit and earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Since joining Shepherd in 2006, he has served in several key leadership roles and remains deeply involved in both the organization and the community.

We hope you will join us for this impactful program and hear firsthand how the Shepherd Community Center continues to transform lives and what lies ahead in its next 40 years.
