From the installation of new indoor and outdoor exhibits, the creation of new programming for adults and the development of a strategic vision to guide the museum’s future, Conner Prairie is thriving. As a nationally acclaimed Smithsonian affiliate, Conner Prairie is one of the most-visited outdoor history museums in the country. Join us as we welcome Norman Burns, President and CEO of the 82-year-old interactive history museum who started in January 2016.

Burns has more than 28 years of experience in various leadership capacities at historical institutions, most recently as executive director at Maymont, a 100-acre property in Richmond, Va., that includes historical buildings, gardens and animal experiences that draws 500,000 visitors annually.

Prior to Maymont, he served as executive director of four Tennessee museums from 1987 to 2001 and remains active in the museum field nationally. He serves as treasurer and council member for the American Association of State and Local History and has served as finance committee chairman, past chairman of the audit committee and CEO forum, and co-chairman of the American Association for State and Local History’s annual meeting in 2011.

He earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He and wife Sandy have three grown sons.

The Rotary Club of Indianapolis is excited to welcome Dr. Donald Sefcik to Rotary. Dr. Sefcik is the Dean at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Just a few weeks ago,133 students from the school’s inaugural class received doctorates of osteopathic medicine, marking the first time a future doctor will graduate from a medical school in Indiana other than Indiana University School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Marian University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine on March 1, 2016, Donald Sefcik, D.O., M.B.A., served as the senior associate dean at the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) from December 2007 – February 2016. Before joining the COM at MSU, Dr. Sefcik was the associate dean at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) at Midwestern University, where he also served time as its assistant dean for clinical sciences and the chairperson of the family medicine department.

A 1985 graduate of CCOM, Dr. Sefcik holds the B.S. in pharmacy and M.S. in pharmacology from Butler University, and the M.B.A. from Purdue University. He completed his rotating internship at Westview Hospital in Indianapolis, and his emergency medicine residency at Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals and Medical Centers. While maintaining active clinical practice he was involved in the clinical education of nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, and osteopathic medical students. He is board-certified in both family practice and emergency medicine.

The Rotary Club of Indianapolis is excited to welcome Governor Eric Holcomb to a casual conversation on our Rotary stage on Tuesday, May 16. Rotarian Laura Sniadecki will interview the Governor and we’re certain to learn a bit about him and his vision for the state of Indiana. We’ll meet upstairs at Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center and as always, the public and guests are welcome.

A life-long Hoosier, Governor Holcomb is a veteran of the United States Navy, served as the state’s 51st Lt. Governor, was a trusted advisor to both Governor Mitch Daniels and Senator Dan Coats, and was a former state chairman of the Indiana Republican Party.

He was elected governor in November 2016, following an unprecedented 106-day campaign and was sworn in on January 9, 2017.

Throughout his career in service, Governor Holcomb has earned a reputation of being a consensus builder. He has traveled extensively throughout the state; visiting, shooting and making a basket in each of Indiana’s 92 counties.

Governor Holcomb is a graduate of Pike High School in Indianapolis and Hanover College in southeastern Indiana where he majored in U.S. History. He is a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau, the National Federation of Independent Business, the Indianapolis WWII Round Table, the American Legion Post 777; and is a board member of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site.

He and his wife, Janet, live with their dog, Henry, in the Governor’s Residence on North Meridian Street in Indianapolis.

The Rotary Club of Indianapolis is proud to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Women in Rotary with a special offsite event. A lovely lunch, catered by MBP Distinctive Catering, will be served in the Ruth Lilly Library on the campus of the Indianapolis Arts Center in Broad Ripple (820 East 67th Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46220). President Sheila Carlson will recognize leaders who have encouraged and empowered women. Philanthropist, artist and business professional Marianne Glick will provide keynote remarks about the importance of women in leadership and philanthropy roles in Indiana.

Marianne has an entrepreneurial spirit. She was an early pioneer in cable TV, had a home renovation business and her own training/consulting firm. After “retiring”, she began painting and has become an accomplished artist, with paintings being accepted into juried competitions and winning awards in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Florida.

Marianne currently serves as chairman of the board for the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Family Foundation and TeenWorks. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Gene Glick Company, the Glick Housing Foundation, Central Indiana Community Foundation, Goodwill Industries, United Way of Central Indiana (where she was campaign chair in 2011 and campaign co-chair in 2012).

Marianne has received several awards for her philanthropic efforts in the community including: Community Mentor of the Year from Big Brothers Big Sisters, 2016; Sagamore of the Wabash, 2014; The Michael Carroll Award, 2013; the first Honorary Alumni from Ball State University, 2013; IBJ Woman of Influence Award, 2013; Spirit of Philanthropy Award from Indiana University, 2014; Touchstone Award from Girls Inc. in 2012.

Born in Rushville, Indiana, Mayor Joe Hogsett has lived and worked in Indianapolis for almost four decades. Joe served six years as Indiana’s Secretary of State and four as United States Attorney, cracking down on gun crimes and street gangs, while breaking all-time records for the number of criminal convictions and the length of sentences.

On November 3, 2015, Joe was elected to serve as the 49th Mayor for the City of Indianapolis. In his first year in office, Mayor Hogsett has lifted the city’s 35-year moratorium on new streetlights, returned IMPD to a community-based policing model and created Indianapolis’ first comprehensive youth summer employment plan — all while cutting overall city spending and building a bipartisan coalition, dedicated to moving Indianapolis forward.

Mayor Hogsett received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University before earning graduate degrees from Indiana University, Butler University, Christian Theological Seminary and a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law.
