    Ring The Bell!

    Each year, the Rotary Club of Indianapolis goes up against the Kiwanis Club in a competition to see who can raise the most money during the Salvation Army bell ringing!

    If you are interested in ringing the bell on December 1, 8 or 15 (conveniently located indoors at the Circle Center Mall), please contact Jennifer Hobbs at JenniferH@archbricktile.com

    To ensure a victory against the Kiwanians, we also encourage members to make a donation to the Salvation Army to add to our total collection- checks can be
    made out to the Salvation Army and dropped at the Rotary office.

    Beloved Rotarian Fred Lesh, who had a personal passion for the bell ringing, passed away this year and we would love to make sure we capture the trophy in his honor this year!

  • Rotary Foundation (TRF) Named World’s Outstanding Foundation for 2016

    The Association of Fundraising Professionals has recognized The Rotary Foundation with its annual Award for Outstanding Foundation.

    The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs. Some of the boldest names in American giving — Kellogg, Komen, and MacArthur, among others —are past honorees.

    AFP’s committee of judges cited Rotary’s comprehensive campaign to eradicate polio as a major driver of the selection. They also mentioned that Rotary applies a methodical, purposeful approach to support a wide variety of causes, from providing clean water to educating the next generation of peace professionals.

    “We are honored to receive this recognition from the AFP, which gives us even more reason to celebrate during our Foundation’s centennial year,” says Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Kalyan Banerjee. “The continued strong support of Rotary members will help us keep our promise of a polio-free world for all children and enable the Foundation to carry out its mission of advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace. We look forward to another 100 years of Rotary members taking action to make communities better around the world.”
    To make sure Rotary continues to improve conditions around the world the Rotary Club of Indianapolis’ TRF Committee has set ambitious TRF centennial-year goals.

    Our Club’s goals are:

    eeweemakiki myaamiaki aacimakiki (talking about my Miami family): Telling Miami History Through Family

    This presentation will focus upon how the histories of Miami families are integral to telling the broader history of the Miami Nation. Using oral histories, the Miami language, family photos and documents, and art and material culture, the presentation illustrates Miami conceptions of family and their integral ties to one another, the Miami homeland, and removed lands over time.

    Scott Shoemaker is a citizen of the Miami Nation of Indiana and is of the Meshingomesia Band. Originally from Kokomo, Indiana, Shoemaker has been active in the revitalization of the Miami language and art of ribbonwork for over twenty years. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota in American Studies with a focus upon American Indian and Museum Studies. He has taught several courses in American Indian Studies and Museum Studies at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the Eiteljorg Museum as the Thomas G. and Susan C. Hoback Curator of Native American Art, History, and Culture, Shoemaker was on the curatorial staff at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

    2016 Indianapolis Rotary Foundation Grants Awarded

  • We Make Indy Look Good

    We Make Indy Look Good

    Join the Environment and Beautification committee and be a part of making our city look good! From cleaning up the MLK Greenway, planting trees in our city parks, to building a Gazebo and providing landscaping at Progress House.

    We are a hands on group, not afraid to get a little dirty.

    We meet the first Monday of each month at 4pm at The Rathskeller. Join us and join in! Who wouldn’t want a chance to spend more time with Norm Melzer?

    The Rotary Club of Indianapolis commemorates The Rotary Foundation’s “Doing Good” Centennial with guest speaker and fellow Rotarian, Mary Beth Growney Selene, at our regular mid-day meeting Tuesday, November 15.

    Rotary Club of Indianapolis President Sheila Carlson and TRF co-chairs David Yeley and Nick Reich invite fellow Rotarians and friends from across District 6560 to make plans to join the downtown Indy Club in the ballroom of the Scottish Rite Cathedral to hear Selene report on 100 years of TRF “doing good.”

    Selene is a recent member of the Rotary International board of directors (2013-2015) and currently serves on the Polio Plus Advocacy committee, the Rotary Foundation Centennial Committee, the Rotary International Districting Committee and the Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group.

    Selene has been a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, WI, since 1987 and served as the club’s president in 1993-1994.

     

    Both the full buffet and the soup and salad lines open at 11:45 am and the program begins at 12:15 pm.

    2016 Riley Tree-Trimming Event

    On Thursday evening, Dec. 1 from 6-7:30 PM Rotarians will be helping Riley kids with making holiday ornaments and then hanging the ornaments on a tree.

    Looking for Another Way to Serve?: Invocation Committee

    If you would like to lead us at the beginning of our weekly luncheons – please let me know! This is a wonderful way for others to get to know you and for you to lead us in the invocation and the pledge of allegiance. We have several Rotarians who are doing this now and hope everyone will be a leader throughout 2017.
