  • Fun at Rotary Golf

Rotary Golf continues back at River Glen this Monday, 6/14/10 which is Flag Day,. Wear some “red, white, and/or blue”. Please note that League Play at River Glen will run thru Monday August 23, 2010; however, we are not playing on Monday, July 5, 2010. Furthermore, you do not have to play every week; just play when you can. Also, we welcome your guests. The cost is the same as last year; $25 with carts or $19 for walkers. League play is handicapped plus is only nine holes; however, you may play the entire eighteen at no additional cost. Just pay at the Clubhouse before you play; tell them that you are with Rotary to get the discounted rate.. There will be a pause after nine to collect scores and socialize. Late golfers may join us then around 5:30 pm and play nine afterwards.

To those of you that didn’t join us last Monday at our Brickyard Crossing outing, you missed out because we had a great day for golf and all had a good time. Every golfer received a logo ball, a logo green’s marker, a towel, and tees. While nobody got a hole in one, Ralph Taylor was our “Bankers Handicap” Champion with a “low net” of 62; congratulations Ralph. Ask him how he chipped it in on the 165 yard par three hole # 4 from the almost 90 degree embankment on the right side of the hole. There were two “official” witnesses to see this great shot on the hole. Jeff Lake and Jim Pauloski, as it was our “hole in one” $20,000.oo prize hole. Tied for second low net with 66’s was Evan Goodman and Ken Young. We needed to use two holes to get the tie breaker and Evan Goodman won. Fourth low net was Kirby Durham at 67. Dan Shelley wasn’t there to defend his “shortest drive” and Kirby Durham obliged. There also was a real battle for highest gross; however, Tom Fisher claimed the prize this time J It should also be noted that Jim Boots Wife, Susan, got the longest drive on Hole # 15; way to go Susan! Other contest prize winners were Todd Lugar, Jerry Clifford, Dick Amick, Ken Konesco, and Steve Ivy. Thanks again to Tim Weiland of the Marion Rotary Club (Stanley Steemer) and our own Kirby Durham (First Financial Bank) for being our sponsors. Thanks to our witnesses (they said that they could be bribed); Jim Bethel, our starter for the day; and all 28 of you who played as we couldn’t have done it without you.

Monday, August 23, 2010, is slated to be our “fun day and awards” event; please mark your calendars as you won’t want to miss it. It will again be a “bankers handicap” event plus there will be prizes on almost every hole. More to follow in the future. If you or your company wants to be a sponsor for the day, please contact me. We accept almost anything. Of course, cash is welcome also.

  • Rotarians Judge Science Fair

    Rotarians Judge Science Fair

In June, Rotarians judged a Science Fair at IPS Christian Park Elementary School 82. All grades participated in their first ever science fair. Students were thoroughly engaged, entertaining and genuinely excited about the fair and the experiments they produced. Some projects were completed individually while other were done as group projects. Our judging focus was to ensure that students understood the ideas behind what a hypothesis is and why it was important. This school’s students were delightful and engaged. See all the photos.

  • Indianapolis Colts

    Indianapolis Colts

Professional football came to Indianapolis March 28, 1984, when Colts Owner Robert Irsay moved the historic NFL franchise from Baltimore to Indianapolis – the friendly heart of the midwest.

The roots of the franchise go back to December 28, 1946, when the bankrupt Miami Seahawks of the All-America Football Conference were purchased and relocated in Baltimore by a group headed by Bob Rodenberg. As the result of a contest in Baltimore, won by Charles Evans of Middle River, Md., the team was renamed the “Colts.” On September 7, 1947, wearing green and silver uniforms, the Colts, under Head Coach Cecil Isbell, won their initial AAFC game, 16-7, over the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team concluded its inaugural season before a record Baltimore crowd of 51,583 by losing to the New York Yankees, 21-7. The Colts finished with a 2-11-1 record, good for a fourth place finish in the Eastern Division. The Colts completed the 1948 season with a 7-8 record, tying the Buffalo Bills for the division title. The Colts compiled a 1-11 mark in 1949. Read more…

  • Rotary & JA BizTown

    Rotary & JA BizTown

On May 8, 2013, Rotarians and others helped with JA BizTown, an effort lead by Rotarian, Lauren Scheldrup. There was wonderful feedback from the teachers and students. Knowledge and experience is invaluable to students and JA cannot thank Rotarians enough for their support.

If you are ever interested in volunteering in the future, Junior Acheivement of Central Indiana is always in need of JA In-School, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park Virtual volunteers.

Here are few of the testimonials from that day…

I want to say a special thank you to Lauren and Sheila for encouraging me to do this. This was a great way for those students to learn a number of important academic and life skills by doing something that the young people obviously enjoyed. It was good to see the enthusiasm, cooperative attitudes and desires to do well that my group exhibited. While I do not know how much I contributed to their learning, it was very interesting and fun to be part of the process.
    Tom Mason

    Greetings All,
It was quite fun to spend time with kids on a well run and thought out program. AND, the time with my fellow Rotarians was quite enjoyable! Well done all….
    Cassie Stockamp

I was impressed with how well run and organized everything was and the kids and volunteers were great. We were glad we participated.
    Robyn Crosson

    Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Please allow me to add my sincere thanks to all of you for helping us foster JA’s mission of inspiring and empowering young people to own their economic success. I look forward to many future opportunities to work together to support our wonderful community.
    Jennifer Burk

I would also like to thank all of you for volunteering in our JA BizTown simulation We appreciate you taking the time to lend a hand to JA, and in helping us to guide our areas youth to believe in their potential.
