    Indianapolis Rotary Foundation Announces Community Grant Recipients $80,000 in funding distributed to five Indianapolis nonprofits

    Indianapolis, IN (December 3, 2019): The Indianapolis Rotary Foundation awards annual Community Grants through a competitive application and review process. The Indianapolis Rotary Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of the 2019-20 Community Grants.

    Brooke’s Place for Grieving Young People will receive $25,000 to fund a Survivors of Suicide (SOS) program specifically targeting and benefiting children, teens, and young adults ages 3 to 29 in and around Marion County, as well as their family members or caregivers, who have experienced the death of a loved one by suicide. The program will provide no-cost individual therapy services, suicide-specific grief resources, and grief support awareness and education.

    Elevate Indianapolis will receive $25,000 to expand their Post-Secondary Preparation Program at George Washington High School. The program equips, trains and prepares high school students to be successfully enrolled, enlisted or employed upon graduation.

    Kids Dance Outreach, Inc. will receive $10,000 to support their in-school program in two schools which will positively impact the lives of 125 children through joyful dance programs that inspire excellence, instill confidence, encourage teamwork, and applaud persistence.

    Purchased, Inc. will receive $10,000 to fund their My Life My Choice (MLMC) program, a ten-week curriculum serving upper middle school and high school girls ages 12 to 17 who are at risk for or have been sexually exploited or trafficked in Indiana. The program will focus on changing attitudes and perceptions about the commercial sex industry, understanding healthy relationships, learning about sexual health and substance abuse, and building skills that reduce the risk of exploitation.

    The Society of St. Andrew, Inc. will receive $10,000 to increase their ability to glean and distribute approximately 111,000 pounds or 333,000 servings of fresh produce to those in Central Indiana who are food insecure.

    “We had over 100 applications submitted this year. The number of applicants highlights the incredible needs and services provided throughout Central Indiana,” says Indianapolis Rotary Foundation President Bill Bubenzer. “We appreciate the hard work of all those who submitted applications and are confident that our Community Grant recipients will use their funding to make a significant community impact.”

    The Indianapolis Rotary Foundation is a private, stand-alone corporation that serves as the community charitable arm of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis.

    Each year, the Foundation generously donates almost $200,000 annually to projects and organizations in the Central Indiana Area that promote the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”

  • Rotary International Foundation Awareness Month

    It’s “The Rotary Foundation/Rotary International Foundation (TRF/RIF)* Awareness Month” across all Rotary platforms. That means it’s time for all of us to contribute so: 

    • Clean water wells, latrines and community sanitation education increases around the world. 
    • Better health in remote villages occurs because of more tele-medical consultations with doctors thousands of miles away
    • Local economies can grow and more families have sustainable incomes.

    Contribute $100 – $5,000 to the Rotary International Foundation (RIF) annual fund by December 13, 2019 and you will receive matching points equal to your contribution toward Paul Harris Fellow status.

  • November 18: Coffee & Conversation with Dr. Jerome Adams, U.S. Surgeon General

    Join the Rotary Club of Indianapolis as we have a special opportunity to sit down and chat with Dr. Jerome Adams the Surgeon General of the United States. His mission as the “Nation’s Doctor,” is to advance the health of the American people. Dr. Adams’ motto as Surgeon General is “better health through better partnerships.” He is committed to strengthening relationships with all members of the health community, and forging new partnerships with members from the business, faith, education and public safety and national security communities. 

    Registration and social time will start at 8:00 a.m. and our conversation with Dr. Jerome Adams will start at 8:30 a.m. Tours of the Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall will be offered immediately following the program.

    WHEN: Wednesday, December 4th, from 5:31 pm till 7:00 or 7:30 pm, or anytime in between.

    WHY: Fellowship, fun, and frivolity during our monthly social get-together.

    NOTE: There will be a group of us heading over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to drive around the track for “Lights at the Brickyard”. Only $25.00 per car load, so everyone is welcome to carpool over, then return to the Union Jack!

    Robert Wesley Seymour: Celebration of Life this Sunday

    Cicero – Robert Wesley Seymour, 79 of Cicero, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019.

    Bob was born July 26, 1939 in Fremont, OH to the late Robert John and Lenora Estella Seymour. Bob grew up in Sheridan Indiana where his parents owned and operated a Ben Franklin store. He attended and graduated from Butler University where he met his wife Joyce. After graduating, Bob taught music in Edinburgh, IN for a few years. In 1964 he accepted a position with the Boy Scout of America, Crossroads of America Council. He held many positions with BSA over the next 24 years. In 1988 he became Executive Director of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis. Under his leadership, the club became one of the largest Rotary Clubs in the United States. Rotary was Bob’s true calling. He always referred to the Rotary 4-way Test in his personal life, and his entire professional career reflected the Rotary Motto of Service Above Self.

    For the past 16 years, Bob and his wife, Joyce, wintered in South Texas where he was a tuba player in the Rio Grande Valley Band and Conductor for the Winter Texan Orchestra. He also sang in the Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus there.

    Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, David Wesley (wife, Kathy) Seymour; grandchildren, Christopher Michael and Anne Marie Seymour; sister, Nancy Boone; brother, Dan Seymour.

    Donations in his name may be made to either the Boy Scouts of America, Crossroads of America Council or The Salvation Army.

    Immediately following the event, we will proceed to the fire ring area where we will light a farewell bonfire in honor of Bob’s lifetime of service to scouting. Scouts uniforms are welcome if you desire.

    The Social Committee invites you to “ZOSO – THE ULTIMATE LED ZEPPLEIN EXPERIENCE” at Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Kroger Symphony on the Prairie on Saturday, August 31.

    For just $27 per person, it’s the perfect place to meet, spend time with your Rotary friends and family for a fun night out. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs, food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) or purchase concessions on site.

    We will have an area saved for Rotarians.  Gates open at 6:00, show starts at 8:00.  Start the socializing early by arriving at 6.  (The ropes are lowered for others beginning at 7:30.)

    Please join us as the Indianapolis Indians host the Annual Rotary vs Kiwanis Softball Game on Monday, July 29. Help us bring home the Babe!

    Game time is at 5:05 p.m., with an Indians game beginning at 7:05 p.m. Each ticket is $16.00. $2 of every ticket will go to our own Indianapolis Rotary Foundation. Register and pay here!

    Please purchase tickets no later than Sunday, July 21. Physical tickets will be distributed at the Rotary program on Tuesday, July 23. If you are unable to pick-up your tickets at the July 23 Rotary program, they will be provided at the Indianapolis Indians Will Call office on July 29.
