Dr. Sean Huddleston began his presidency as Martin University’s 5th president in 2019. Dr. Huddleston’s entire career in higher education has been focused on leading institutional efforts that create conditions of success for nontraditional students and those who have been historically underrepresented and underserved. Prior to joining Martin University, Dr. Huddleston served as the inaugural Vice President and Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer for the University of Indianapolis. This year the Rotary Club of Indianapolis will host a service project during our weekly Tuesday program when the month has a 5th Tuesday. Mark your calendars now for August 30, November 29, January 31 and May 30.
Join us Tuesday as we work with the Indiana Diaper Bank. The Indiana Diaper Bank is a nonprofit charity that works to assist low-income families to meet the immediate need for diapers and provide a reliable source of basic diaper needs.1 in 3 families in Indiana struggle to afford diapers, which is a cost of $80 a month per child. On Tuesday we will work together to package diapers for families in need.

August 23: Ted Green
Join us Tuesday to hear from Ted Green. In 2010, Ted switched to filmmaking after 20 years as a newspaper journalist. Since then, he has produced seven documentaries, the most recent about Holocaust survivor turned global forgiveness ambassador Eva Kor. Ted’s current project is on Carl Erskine, the last-man standing of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ famed “Boys of Summer” and a longtime ambassador for diversity and inclusion.
Ted’s documentaries have screened in film festivals worldwide and at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and have been featured in The New York Times and Forbes.com. “Eva: A-7063” aired on 95 percent of U.S. PBS stations and in Germany. “Undefeated: The Roger Brown Story” aired on ESPN Classic for several years. Ted holds a BA in American History from Princeton University and a Masters from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
We look forward to hearing about Ted’s newest film as well as the Erskine Personal Impact Curriculum (EPIC) that has been developed in partnership with Special Olympics Indiana.

Sept. 17: White River Clean-Up Project
Join Rotarian friends and guests in volunteering to clean up a small section of the White River. We’ll work both the shoreline and the river (in canoes). Families are welcome. When we did this last year, we had a blast! And we pulled about 3,000 pounds of junk and litter from the river.
Join us Sat., Sept. 17 from 9 am till 1 pm or any portion thereof. The precise location is yet to be selected by Friends of the White River. All are welcome.

On Tuesday we will hear from Rotarians Todd Lugar and Joel Westphal of Furniture Management Solutions. Both are serial entrepreneurs and will speak about what it is like to go out on your own. What are the risks? What are the benefits? Join us next week if you’ve ever thought about starting your own business or are curious about entrepreneurship.
Todd R. Lugar joined Furniture Management Solutions as president in the fall of 2021 and has responsibilities in strategic planning, operations, and finance. Todd’s career includes extensive leadership experience with small and mid-sized businesses in multiple industries including manufacturing, distribution, health care and corporate finance. He enjoys working on a challenge and collaborating with others to create fundamental stability and long-term growth prospects. Todd enjoys being active in the community and has served in leadership positions for multiple industry associations and non-profit organizations.
Joel Westphal is the founder of Furniture Management Solutions. In this role, he oversees corporate strategies relating to business growth, personnel, and overall financial health. Previously, Joel was a successful owner of multiple Service Master franchises and represented the Service Master and Furniture Medic brands within various hospital systems. Through his 40+ year career, Joel has created several spin-off businesses and developed a network of clients and strong relationships with hospitals and universities. He has achieved success by anticipating and acting upon the current needs of each client.

August 9: Honoring George Dingledy
Join us Tuesday to honor one of our own, George Dingledy, the oldest active Rotarian WWII veteran in the state of Indiana. George has been an active member of Rotary for 64 years. He’ll turn 99 on November 26. George was drafted into service March 1, 1943 and was home at last in December of 1945.
Hear about his service to Rotary, his Country and the City of Wabash, Indiana. The Mayor of Wabash, the Honorable Scott Long, will join us along with some additional special guests. Join us Tuesday to hear from Glen Kwok the Executive Director of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Mr. Kwok is Immediate Past-President of the Indianapolis Consortium of Arts Administrators and currently serves as President of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, based in Geneva.
Mr. Kwok will give an update on the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis – what still remains the only violin competition of its stature in the United States. 40 participants have been invited to the competition that begins September 9 and will run for 17 days. The talented young violists ranging in ages of 17 to 29 and representing 16 countries will compete for the largest package in IVC history. All are welcome at Rotary programs. Since becoming the fourth CEO of USA Track & Field on May 1, 2012, nationally renowned sports and entertainment executive Max Siegel has led USATF to financial growth, programmatic evolution and inclusive representation that are unprecedented in the Olympic family.
During his tenure at USATF, Siegel has secured 19 new partners, generated more than $500 million in revenue, expanded the USATF annual budget to a record $40 million, successfully bid for the U.S. to host the World Athletics Outdoor Championships for the first time and secured a historic, long-term contract with Nike.
In addition to being the CEO of USA Track & Field, Siegel owns Rev Racing, the NASCAR- supported team charged with developing female and minority drivers, and pit crew members. Over the last 20 years Siegel has made a tremendous impact in this sport, providing opportunities to over 125 diverse and female drivers, over 100 diverse and female pit crew members, 20 plus interns and countless other disadvantaged youths, vendors, scholarship recipients, and young professionals, some of which now hold positions at the highest level of the sport.

July 19: Victor Kubik
Join us Tuesday to hear from Victor Kubik the Founder of LifeNets International. A little over 20 years ago, Victor founded LifeNets specifically to help children victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Since then, LifeNets has raised and sent more than $1 million to support the “Revival Center” in Chernihiv, a center for children with disabilities. Chernihiv received front-page coverage in the Wall Street Journal recently as much of its civilian population has been targeted in the Russian invasion. Victor himself is a former Ukrainian refugee from WWII.
Victor is a life-long Christian minister and has served in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. He was invited to travel and serve as a translator for an Indiana Outreach effort organized and led by then First Lady Judy O’Bannon to Russia and former areas of the Soviet Union. A member of the Carmel (Indiana) and Batavia (Ohio) Rotary Clubs, Kubik and his wife Beverly have secured Rotary International grants and funding to help support LifeNets projects, including projects in Ukraine and Africa.
